OTSU

May 1, 2024

This past year has been filled with a lot of memorable moments to look back on:

  • Our first full year as a voting member of the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance
  • Establishing Legacy Builders as part of Black History Month
  • Running a successful Period Project campaign increasing users by 600%
  • OTSU Esports teams taking home not one, but two NECC titles!

And with each passing year, our young organization continues to grow and improve, making advancements on all fronts so that weโ€™re serving students better.

It fills us with joy and a sense of accomplishment to actively listen to our student body and to steer a course of action that helps address the needs and concerns that you have. We at the OTSU couldn't be happier with the accomplishments we've collectively achieved, and will continue to achieve!

At the risk of getting teary-eyed with nostalgia, here's the 2023/2024 year by the numbers:

๐ŸŽช Hosted 51 EVENTS, including Monster, Fall Fair, Maker's Market, a pancake breakfast, the White Out Party, Pangaea, and so many more!

โ™ฃ๏ธ Ratified 101 CLUBS.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Took 521 STUDENT APPOINTMENTS.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Gave out ~7000 MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS and increased Period Bank use by over 600%.

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ผ Upcycled tons of good clothing and OUTFITTED ~100 STUDENTS through First Impressions.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Filed 125 TAX RETURNS for students.

๐ŸŸ๏ธ Welcomed 1001 PLAYERS to our esports arena for a total of 4153 HOURS of gameplay.

๐ŸŽฎ Took home 2 ESPORTS TROPHIES (NECC Winter 2024 conference titles in League of Legends and Rocket League)๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Saw a huge increase in OTSU General Elections engagement with over 1100 STUDENT VOTES.

๐Ÿค Additionally, we participated in 8 UNIVERSITY GOVERNANCE MEETINGS, including Academic Counsel, Board of Governors, and Academic Appeals meetings.

โœ๏ธ Co-authored and edited 3 OUSA ADVOCACY PAPERS (Housing, Transit, & Community Development, International Students & International Education, and Addressing Racism & Religious Discrimination)

In sum, we did a lot. But we're not stopping there! We still have a lot more we want to accomplish! With your help, we'll keep championing your needs and striving for greater student representation, more impactful events and initiatives, and keep making improvements to your student experience at Ontario Tech.
