Ontario Tech students can now apply for esports-specific scholarships. Following the Province’s announcement last year of a $1 million investment in scholarships for post-secondary students pursuing degrees in game design or similar fields, Ontario Tech University has just announced that several scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 will be awarded in the 2022-23 academic year for a total of $25,000.

Application Deadline Date: February 20, 2023.

These scholarships will offer financial assistance to high-achieving students with financial need enrolled in programs related to the video-gaming industry that may lead to a career in the video-gaming or esports fields.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program during the 2022-2023 academic year.
  • Attending a funding-eligible video-gaming, game development, game design, or similar program that may lead to a career in video-gaming and/or eSports.
  • Limited to domestic students (Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents or protected persons).
  • Candidates must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the University through a review of OSAP, out-of-province government assistance, and/or the completion of the Ontario Tech bursary application.
  • Candidates will also be assessed on merit (minimum 3.0 CGPA average) and express an interest in the video-gaming or eSport industry.
