Overview
Being a student is stressful enough without the added pressure of health expenses. That’s where your student union comes in.
Student Health Plan
We’ve partnered with Gallivan to offer all full-time domestic and international students with extended health coverage.
Coverage
Your plan covers major student health and dental expenses. Coverage resets annually. It starts when your program begins and ends August 31.
Plan Fees
All full-time students pay into the OTSU’s Health & Dental Plan, and myvirtualdoctor through ancillary fees as part of their tuition.
My Virtual Doctor
Students can see a physician or nurse care practitioner with limited wait times, with the ease of not having to leave their home.

Key Coverage Information
Your plan covers major student health and dental expenses. Coverage resets annually and runs from September 1st until August 31st.
New members have a 45 to 60-day validation period. During this time, pay for expenses upfront and keep your receipts. After enrollment, you can register your Canada Life account, submit online claims, and use your benefits card. This applies to new students, re-enrollees, and added family members. Returning students use the plan without interruption.
Adding Loved Ones
You can extend health and dental benefits to your spouse and children by applying to have them added before the deadline. Additional fees apply.
Add a family memberOpt-Out Deadline
Students with alternative coverage may choose to opt out of the plan with proof of alternative coverage.
If you start your university program in the fall semester, the opt-out deadline is September 30th. If you start in the winter term, the opt-out deadline is January 30th. If you start in the spring/summer term, the opt-out deadline is May 30th.
International Student Coverage
For international students, health plan coverage is provided through the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). For more information, please visit Ontario Tech’s website or contact them at uhip@ontariotechu.ca.
My Virtual Doctor
My Virtual Doctor provides domestic and international students and immediate families with individual access to qualified medical care through a virtual platform 24 hrs per day, 7 days per week to address many of the common concerns faced by students. You may opt-out of this service by September 30th.
