African Student Union

Mission Statement:
The African Student Union (ASU) is dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive community for students of African descent and those interested in African cultures at Ontario Tech University]. Our mission is to foster unity, promote cultural awareness, and provide a platform for the celebration and discussion of African heritage, values, and current affairs. We aim to enrich the university experience for African students and all who join us through cultural, social, and educational initiatives.

Arab Student Community

The Arab Student Community is a place for both Arab and non-Arab students to come together and immerse themselves in the rich culture, language and heritage. Through our events we hope to celebrate and promote cultural diversity, while providing a space for members to connect, learn and grow together!

ASME OTU Student Section

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe.

ASME enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education, and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world.

ASME Student Sections may participate in design competitions, E-Fest, EFx, fundraising, volunteer work, university activities or partnering with local schools to provide STEM activities. The Student Sections also give students the opportunity to lead and make meaningful decisions for their group.

Autonomous Drive Club

The Autonomous Driving Club (ADC) at Ontario Tech University aims to be a leading platform for students interested in autonomous driving technology. We aim to foster innovation, collaboration, and practical experience in this rapidly evolving field. The mission of the ADC is to provide students with the knowledge, resources, and hands-on experience necessary to understand and contribute to the autonomous driving industry. Our objectives include promoting awareness and interest in autonomous driving technologies among students, facilitating hands-on projects and research, and organizing workshops, seminars, and guest lectures by industry professionals. We also aim to establish partnerships with companies and organizations in the autonomous driving sector and participate in relevant competitions and events. Black Student Collective

We aim to create a social and academic networks for black students through education, discussion, wellness, and empowerment.

Blankets for TO Oshawa Chapter- BTO Oshawa

Blankets for Oshawa is determined to end the stigma around homelessness, spread awareness, and shed light on topics that are often not discussed in society. We aim to accomplish this via our informative posts on our Instagram and by donating to those in need.

Blueprint @ OTU

Ontario Tech's very own Blueprint branch!

Blueprint is a student run nonprofit organization founded at UC Berkeley in Spring 2013. Blueprint helps develop technology solutions for local nonprofit organizations. Each year, teams of students partner with several local nonprofits to build them web or mobile applications that will help them better address their communities.

Campus Church is a non-denominational Evangelical Christian Club. Our mission is to connect students with the freeing truth of Jesus - that He died and rose again. In the midst of stress and anxiety we love to connect with and pray for our peers.

Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF)

The CLF club at Ontario Tech will be a chapter in association with the Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF). The CLF organization is a group of doctors and business leaders concerned about the increasing incidence of liver disease, the first organization in the world devoted to providing support for research and education into the causes, diagnoses, prevention, and treatment of all liver disease.

The university chapter of the Canadian Liver Foundation is on a mission to raise awareness about liver disease, support cutting-edge research through fundraising, and educate our campus community about liver health. As a student-led initiative, this chapter offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in meaningful activities that directly contribute to the Foundation's mission of bringing research to life.

Liver disease affects 1 in 4 Canadians, yet the stigma associated with alcohol and drugs often prevents people from seeking help. Our goal is to break down these barriers by increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting early detection and prevention. Young adulthood is the perfect time to adopt healthy habits that protect liver health, and we believe our chapter can make a significant impact on both students and patients.

The Caribbean Student Association (CSA) is a vibrant and inclusive community committed to celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of the Caribbean. Our mission is to foster cultural awareness, community building, and advocacy for Caribbean students and those interested in Caribbean culture. Through a variety of events, workshops, and social activities, we aim to educate, inspire, and unite our members. Whether you are of Caribbean descent or simply curious about the Caribbean, CSA welcomes you to join us in celebrating and exploring the diverse traditions and heritage of the Caribbean islands. Together, we create a home away from home, providing support, friendship, and a platform for cultural exchange.

Computer Science Club

A Computer Science oriented club focused on bringing real-world experience to Ontario Tech University students in computer science and related programs while having fun and creating connections along the way!

Criminology Graduate Student Association (CGSA)

The CGSA will liaise between the Criminology graduate students and its faculty. It will provide opportunities for professional development, social events, and create a sense of community among the Criminology graduate students. The CGSA aims to host a variety of events and activities. These events and activities include a mixture of: (1) networking events curated to foster relationships between graduate students with their peers and professors; (2) professional development workshops designed to provide graduate students with beneficial skills to assist them throughout their MA and PhD (e.g., mental health, TA/RA duties, public speaking and presenting at academic conferences, grant writing, etc.); (3) guest speakers that align with research interests among graduate students (e.g., policing, LGTBQ+ issues, youth justice, etc.); and (4) a peer mentorship program where incoming graduate students will be paired with current students to help transition and guide them through the program. Some events will be opened up to graduate students outside of Criminology to help graduate students build connections with peers in other Social Science fields (e.g., Forensic Psychology).

Debate Club

Debate club is a club aimed to discuss political, environmental and global issues through persuasive arguing. Debating is an excellent skill that enriches critical thinking, public speaking and confidence in one's self. This club will teach students that they have a strong voice, and are active members in today's society that can make a purposeful difference that can influence their and others lives. I am hoping to host a biweekly meeting where general members and executives can come together and share their love for debating by debating over a chosen topic. The club will be open to students of any Faculty and of any age, debating has no limits! It is a perfect opportunity for students to make friends with like minded people. Additionally the school does not have a debate club yet, which will really stimulate current debaters, but as well as people that are curious. The club is perfect for beginners as well as advanced debaters. I am hoping that with the funding we can participate in at least one conference, such as UTMUN, which is hosted at UofT. Thank you!

East Asian Student Association (EASA)

The East Asian Student Association is a student run organization that aims to bring Ontario Tech students of East Asian heritage and students interested in East Asian culture into a safe and positive community.

We hope to educate, inform, and spread knowledge about East Asian festivals and traditions, giving students a welcoming space to embrace their culture, by hosting fun and welcoming events for all students. Our club promotes diversity, inclusion, and a celebration of East Asian culture. Membership in the club is not exclusive to students of East Asian heritage, and we encourage those interested in learning about East Asian culture in a respectful and informative manner to join.

Electronics Club

The Electronics club is a club with the goal of providing students with the opportunity to learn new skills. It
is also a hub for project collaboration among students who are interested in similar electronics subjects.

Engineers Without Borders Canada stands at the forefront of addressing global challenges through engineering and technological innovation, ""engineering an equitable and sustainable future for marginalized people and the planet."" Forensic Science Student Association

The Forensic Science Student Association hopes to give the opportunity for students interested in the field of forensic science to be involved in campus life, and allow them to participate in forensic science related events

Game Art Club

Game Art Club is a club that focuses on teaching and sharing primarily game development focused art but still caters to other art mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpting etc. The club also holds events to challenge artists such as:

Game Development Students Association

The Game Development Students Association (GDSA) strives to engage, support and represent game development students on campus by providing opportunities for growth that lead to their success. We are a diverse and vibrant community that helps students reach their full potential and become professional game developers.

We host weekly events as well as our large scale events such as our in-person game jams (48 hour timeline to create a small scoped game based upon a central theme), guest speaker sessions/workshops, and our year end showcase GameCon which spans across a large amount of the north campus.

The Game Programming Club is dedicated to sharing our interest in game programming with all the students. Our vision is to help students improve at making the games they want, learning new cool concepts, and have fun doing it, regardless of skill level.

The Game Sound Club is a group focused on the design, implementation, and creation of sound effects, voice work, music, and any other sounds associated with video games.

In a program very focused on visuals and programming, we offer a great place for the niche of audio developers to grow together, learn from each other, and listen to great things together.

Google Developer Student Club (GDSC)

The OTU Google Developer Groups (GDG) on Campus is a vibrant community of tech enthusiasts, learners, and creators who are passionate about leveraging Google technologies to solve real-world problems and advance their skills in the world of software development, design, and innovation. Our club is an official initiative supported by the Google Developers Groups on Campus Program, aiming to empower students to become proficient developers and leaders in their local tech ecosystem.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest professional association for advancing innovation and technological excellence. The establishment of an IEEE Student Chapter at Ontario Tech University (OTU) is proposed to foster professional development, technical education, and leadership opportunities among students. Indian Student Association

This club is intended to create a positive social environment with people from a particular part of the world, specifically targeting people of The Indian origin, however, our goal is to create a safe social environment where people of Indian origin can showcase their culture to their peers, whether or not they are from the same ethnicity, introducing aspects of our culture to people unfamiliar with it, in a socially acceptable setting. We want to host small events to raise awareness about our club such as selling certain foods that originate from India, showcasing different dressing styles, and even having big get togethers on campus so that everyone has a chance to look into our rich culture and see what it is all about. It is also intended to bring people who share this culture together, by introducing people who may not interact directly on campus, but can meet through a shared cultural and ethnic connection.

The International Students Association is a student-run club that aims to bring people of all nationalities and races together and form a budding transnational community on our lovely campus.

We will be organizing a plethora of activities throughout the year, and if you have any grievances or suggestions for the university, we will bring them up with the appropriate personnel!

Med Lab United

Med Lab United provides students in the Medical Laboratory Science program with opportunities to learn about the profession and network with medical laboratory technologists through various academic and social events.

MEDLIFE: Ontario Tech Chapter

MEDLIFE Chapters are student groups that represent and share the MEDLIFE Movement to create a world free from the constraints of poverty at their schools and in their local communities.

Our in-country staff works with impoverished communities in Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Tanzania every day - but we couldn't do it without the support of our Chapters. They make an impact by organizing groups to volunteer in Service Learning Trips, raising awareness about global health inequality, hosting fundraisers, engaging in local community service, and hosting regional conferences, among other initiatives.

Mental Health Association

Our club goal is to raise awareness regarding mental health. We want to provide everyone with a chance to learn more mental health, break stigmas surrounding mental health, and offer opportunities to help deal with stress during the school year because everyone's mental health matters.

To empower students of all majors/minors with the knowledge and skills needed to analyze and evaluate investment opportunities, fostering a collaborative environment for exploring and understanding market trends, equity research, and investing principles.

After taking a finance elective during my fall semester of 2023, I realized there is a lot more to investing and research than what students are exposed to. Starting an investment and equity research club at Ontario Tech can provide numerous benefits to students, enhancing their academic, professional, and personal growth. The Ontario Tech Law Association is made for those who are interested in going into the legal field and pursuing careers that are related to law. We discuss what is needed to gain admission into law school, we have guest speakers such as lawyers and other individuals in the legal field in order for students to gain insight into what they are going into.

Ontario Tech Marketing Association (OTMA)

The Ontario Tech Marketing Association (OTMA) is a student-run organization that works to better the experience for Ontario Tech students interested in marketing. Founded in 2010, the OTMA has created and run numerous student-social events, marketing workshops, networking events, and annual case competitions. Our mission is to excite students about the marketing field through various workshops, case competitions, and interactions with industry professionals, to ensure success in the pursuit of a marketing career.

Ontario Tech Medical Engineering Club

Ontario Tech Medical Engineering Club will be about challenges and how to overcome them. We will have events such as hackathons etc. with prizes for the winners, we will also have guest speakers who have 20+ years of experience in both medical and engineering professions come in and speak about their personal experiences.

The Ontario Tech Pre-Medical Association is dedicated to guiding and supporting students as they navigate their medical journeys. We are the Ontario Tech Pride club. Our goal is to provide a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ students who wish to connect with other students within the community within the school. We like to host twice a month gatherings for students to just hang out and have fun in a place where they know that everyone there accepts and supports them for who they are. We accept members of all sexualities and gender expression from across the spectrums.

The OTU Board Games Club is a community based around playing board/card games. Our goal is to create a friendly environment to learn, play, and socialize with each other, and to help inspire excitement about the world of board games. Cars, most people see them as just a method of transportation. However, our committee members and many more in our Ontario Tech Community see them as much more. They are expressions of individualism and hold us to a group much larger than ourselves. Our goals within this club are to facilitate a safe, inclusive, and all-around supportive atmosphere for us all to share our passion for cars. We will aid in organizing events (including but not limited to) Cruises, Car shows, track events, and weather-appropriate events. I will also ensure the group members uphold our values in creating a space where everyone can enjoy their cars without fearing being judged. We have a love for cars and many of our peers know it is becoming increasingly hard to enjoy them. We will make it our personal goal to ensure that we have a safe and fun community of cars here at Ontario Tech, So let's bring back the love in the car community, and just maybe make a change in the process.

Ontario Tech Musicians (OTU Musicians)is dedicated to fostering a community of passionate musicians and music enthusiasts. Our club is committed to raising funds and supporting the SickKids Hospital financially to ensure the well-being and health of children. At the same time, we are dedicated to increasing awareness of the significance of healthcare. We hope to engage and inspire the Ontario Tech community by presenting impactful events and activities. Ultimately, our mission is to encourage meaningful change and create a healthier future for children.

OTU Tabletop Club

We are a club dedicated to organizing tabletop role playing games and events related to it. The most famous in the genre is Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) but there exists other games with more or less rules. We aim to provide weekly sessions for introducing people to the genre and also provide a space for others to meet to form their own games.

Pakistani Student Association (PSA)

This club will be an opportunity for all students to come together and learn

Resilience is a non-profit organization started with the goal of empowering Canadians dealing with disabilities. The definition of Resilience is to be able to adapt to adversity and this organization is committed to helping achieve this. Resilience is what allows individuals dealing with disabilities to feel heard, empowered, and welcomed. With the mission to change numerous lives and raise funds for Canadians with disabilities, ResilienceOTU will work to end the stigma related to individuals with disabilities. Resilience would like to start its chapter at Ontario Tech to help those with disabilities be optimistic about their future by putting their trust in Resilience.

Social Science and Humanities Women's Collective

Mission statement: A space for SSH women to connect and thrive

The purpose of our sub-society will be to create a welcoming community that provides women in Social Science and Humanities programs an opportunity to connect and build relationships with other women and use this community to achieve success in higher education. Scholarly literature shows that peer relationships are crucial to academic, personal, and professional success for women in higher education. We aim to provide that space for women (Peregrina-Kretz et al., 2018). Creating a space for SSH women to connect and find a community will help them thrive.

Below is a breakdown of the definitions that our sub-society reflects:

SSH (Social Science and Humanities): We represent and support all students majoring and minoring in social science and humanities programs: communication, psychology, forensic psychology, liberal arts, criminology, political science and legal studies.

Women: We embrace all-inclusive definitions of the term ""woman."" Our focus is on helping women succeed in higher education by enhancing their academic, social, and wellness needs by building a community for women by women.

Collective: A collective is a community of people with shared goals, values, and experiences that create initiatives to achieve a broader purpose through mutual understanding and common humanity.

The Thaqalayn Muslim Association is a religious and cultural organization primarily focused on promoting the teachings of Islam, particularly within the Shia tradition. The association is named after the concept of Thaqalayn, which refers to the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad's family, emphasizing their central role in guiding the Muslim community.

UHN Heart Club

Our club is dedicated to raising awareness about heart health through education, advocacy, and community outreach. We aim to inform our students about cardiovascular disease prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, and early detection. In addition, we actively organize fundraising initiatives to support cutting-edge heart health research, contributing to the development of new treatments and interventions that can improve and save lives.

weCloud

Mission Statement: WeCloud began with a simple yet powerful conversation about change. We wanted to do something meaningful to build a stronger community, connect friends, and make the world a little healthier. So in 2022, we rolled up our sleeves and started our journey.

Our process is simple: we gather donations from students and faculty, carefully clean, organize, and then display them for other students to benefit from. The remaining items are then donated to a local youth shelter, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

We are proud to say that our little cost-free initiative has already made a big difference. It is helping students find items and resources they may need, it's reducing waste, and it's putting smiles on faces. To us, weCloud is a lightning example of how simple conversations can turn into powerful actions that bring people together and create positive change.

The goal of the Women in Engineering (WiE) Society is to build a community of women engineering students at Ontario Tech in order to help them feel a greater sense of belonging and lead them towards empowerment. To do this, WiE holds both social events which bring students together, as well as events for professional development to help them gain the skills necessary to stand out and succeed in the field of engineering, where women are still a minority. Students can get involved by participating in events and signing up to volunteer for booths and workshops.

World University Service of Canada (WUSC)

WUSC is a Canadian non-profit organization working to create a better world for all young people. We bring together a diverse network of students, volunteers, schools, governments, and businesses who share this vision. Together, we foster youth-centered solutions for improved education, economic, and empowerment opportunities to overcome inequality and exclusion in over 15 countries across Asia, Africa, and the Americas. WUSC believes in youth and the power of education. As an official Sponsorship Agreement Holder with the Government of Canada, WUSC Local committee at OTU part takes in the Student Refugee Program (SRP) to resettle refugees at OTU to gain access to education.
